Meaning of a Glocal
As teachers we all try to find that next level to take our students to in the classroom. Whether we increase our rigor in questioning or allowing our students to become more personalized in their learning. But have we ever truly challenged ourselves as educators to have our students level of learning not just test driven but solving real life problems that impact others. This was the charge that I took on in understanding what globalization was and how it would affect my students. In watching Jennifer Pate discuss how living within your community should not just be limited to the people you see or problems you solve on a daily basis. No, being a glocal is stepping outside of your community and seeing yourself as someone regardless to what country or city you are in you will always have an emotional connection to that particular place. When we as people connect to place and people or even things we tend to do our best to make that place a better place not only for the community but for the children within the community. This is how our students can play a huge part in becoming that next leader or doctor, when they can see themselves not with the closed mindness of New Orlean, Louisiana but seeing themselves as a part of Mexico, India, or even Africa.
